چکیده

In 1934, Codman first introduced the term “frozen shoulder” to identify a clinical entity difficult to define, to treat, and to explain. Neviaser, in 1945, found thickening and contracture of the capsule, and that the thickened capsule peeled from the humeral head like adhesive plaster from skin. Adhesive capsulitis, also known as frozen shoulder, is a musculoskeletal disorder characterized by pain and restriction of motion of the shoulder joint. In the primary or idiopathic form, no causative finding in the history or examination explains the onset of the disease. Secondary adhesive capsulitis relates to those cases that develop following trauma or surgery. The true incidence of primary adhesive capsulitis in general population varies from 2 to 5 %. 1-3) Yet, despite the large number of patients affected by this condition, our understanding of its etiology is limited. Middle aged people seem to be more at risk, with women more so than men. 1, 2) It often presents bilaterally, but does not seem to affect the same shoulder twice. 4) Comorbidities such as diabetes, 1, 5-7) hypothyroidism, 8, 9)

Arthroscopic capsular release for refractory shoulder stiffness: a critical analysis of effectiveness in specific etiologies.

HYPOTHESIS The purpose of this study is to report and compare the outcome of arthroscopic capsular release in patients with shoulder stiffness with post-traumatic, postsurgical, and idiopathic etiologies. We hypothesize that patients with idiopathic or post-traumatic stiffness have better outcomes after arthroscopic capsular release than those with shoulder stiffness with a postsurgical etiolog...

Frozen Shoulder: Diagnosis and Management.

"Frozen shoulder" comprises a group of conditions caused by different processes. Effective treatment depends on recognition of the underlying pathologic dis-order in each individual case. Idiopathic adhesive capsulitis usually responds to nonoperative therapy or closed manipulation, but shoulder stiffness due to trauma or surgery may necessitate either an arthroscopic or an open-release procedu...

The Impact of Arthroscopic Capsular Release in Patients with Primary Frozen Shoulder on Shoulder Muscular Strength

The aim of this study was to evaluate the impact of arthroscopic capsular release in patients with primary frozen shoulder on muscular strength of nonaffected and treated shoulder after at least two-year follow-up after the surgery. The assessment included twenty-seven patients, who underwent arthroscopic capsular release due to persistent limitation of range of passive and active motion, shoul...

Arthroscopic capsular release for the stiff shoulder. Description of technique and anatomic considerations.

The anatomic proximity of several neurovascular structures remains a major concern to the surgeon interested in performing arthroscopic capsular release. We evaluated the anatomic relationships between the released capsule and the axillary nerve, posterior circumflex humeral artery, and brachial artery in a frozen cadaveric model. With the aid of electrocautery, seven cadaveric shoulders underw...

Frozen shoulder--comparison of different surgical treatment options.

In this study data from 54 patients with persisting primary frozen shoulder were collected and evaluated retrospectively. All included patients underwent a specific kind of surgical treatment of the shoulder. Three different surgical techniques were compared to each other. A group of 21 patients received a combination of arthroscopic capsular release and subacromial decompression. 18 patients w...
